Giving thanks... This is no minute task. To be able to do this properly, one must consider everything. It is for this reason that I only give thanks to those who deserve it. First of all, I give thanks to my friends who's advice an company I cherish greatly. Thanks to their amiability I am able to confide in them any troubles I may have. Secondly, I would like to give thanks to my family whom I share many anecdotes with. Finally, I would like to give thanks to God who has given me this wonderful life, full of grace and blessings. It is inevitable that during this time, the time of thanks, that I am able to ponder all the blessings that surround me and I am able to really see how happy I am.

The dangers of contamination... :$
We as human beings have a responsibility to take care of our planet; we should be cognizant of the consequences of our actions. Unfortunately, most people elude this reality. When we pollute our environment we not only sullies the aesthetic features of it, but also the living creatures that inhabit this environment. An example of this is when people throw away plastic bottles and other garbage in beaches. This simple act threatens the life of many living, breathing organisms that depend on the natural balance of nature. This garbage takes about fifteen years to decompose completely. During this time, many creatures get trapped inside this garbage and thus lose their lives. This ultimately affects the rest of the the food chain because other animals may feed off of these organisms, and thus will have less food. In conclusion, this reckless behavior is something that should be mitigated immediately.

The Thanksgiving Holiday...
During the month of November, we are spared from school to spend time with our families and enjoy their culinary talents. This break is designed to let us spend quality time with our families, take a break from school, and also to become energized for the remainder of the school semester. It wold be logical that in this time we would have little work to do so we could enjoy our break, but this is not the reality. In truth, most of us are pelted with an immense amount of homework and projects to be finished in this time. This means that we as students have to learn how to spread out our work for the duration of the break so that we are not stuck during the last days working on things that we should have done through the entire break. This way, we will not suffer from insomnia and will be able to enjoy our break.

Friends! :D
Most people think that a friend is just someone that you just spend time with, but the reality is that friends are much more than that; they are your family. People normally develop extremely close relationships with their friends. For example, I myself find that being accompanied by my friends is something that I have to relish constantly. This is something that I cherish a lot because of the fact that I am an only child. This causes me to become very lonely at times, and thus look for my friends so that I can procure help with any problem that I may have. Amicability ushers the development of happiness. Friendship can never be superfluous.

The wonders of sleep
Sleep is defined as to take the rest afforded by a suspension of voluntary bodily functions. This is inevitable in our lives because this process helps us energize our body and thus be able to exert ourselves physically and mentally. Unfortunately, this is not very typical among the students of University Gardens because we are bombarded by extreme amount of homework that require extensive hours of dedicated work. This sometimes invades the time we should dedicate to sleep. Sometimes, students are affected in negative ways. They may become irritable, flippant, and ultimately may express unorthodox behavior. It is because of this that we should take the time to sleep the correct amount of hours. This way, we can do our best in school, in our social lives, and in our extracurricular activities.

Fried Rice! :D
What most Puerto Ricans call chinese rice is actually called fried rice. This type of rice can be procured easily. Fist, one must cook medium sized rice in water with oil and slat. After this, one must employ various ingredients that will add peculiar flavors to the rice. These can be lettuce, green or red peppers, shrimp, ham, among others. After this, soy sauce has to be added to the rice in order to add color and taste to this type of rice. This is according to the person that is cooking so it can be a superfluous or a minuscule amount. Though this is a very tasty rice, it is not the original fried rice that people eat in China, it is only a Puerto Rican version of this rice.

Music...
For some, music is a distraction; for others it's entertainment; but for me, music is inspiration. Whenever I plug-in my earphones, I delve into a my own world where my imagination can run free. Music helps me ponder about my work, concentrate on what I'm doing, and thus complete my work auspiciously. Sincerely, I can't imagine a world in which music is not present. This would be a world devoid of creativity and imagination. It is futile to deny the importance of the fanfare of instruments creating a beautiful melody that I relish so much. What I am trying to express through this is that I cherish music with all of my heart and I believe that my life would not be the same without it.

Love?... or Obsession?
There is a fine line between love and obsession. Love is characterized by putting that person before anything else. The opposite can be said about obsession, in this case the person puts his or her feelings above the feelings of his or her object of obsession. Also, in the case of love, we normally take into consideration that a person feels compassion and affection toward the person he or she loves; but in the case of obsession, that person feels only desire and thus expresses themselves in an impertinent way. This will ultimately make an obsessive person become abstruse and develop a sullen personality. These two aspects are very similar though. When we talk about love or obsession, we take into account how a person thinks or feels about another person. If I can confer anything through this entry is that we should avert obsession and embrace love for it is an endued quality that any person can have.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction...
Our world is a fragile one; because of this, we have to be very careful when we dispose of the garbage that we accumulate. There is no excuse for the negligence of littering. This may have colossal repercussions on our environment, and thus may affect us in a negative way. Pollution has the capacity to destroy many ecosystems that hold important organisms. These creatures may be essential in the food chains of the environment to which they belong. If these organisms die, others may be affected inside of this bionetwork. In the end, these events will reach us. This is not inevitable; we can incite our society into being more cautious about their decisions about the environment. This way, we will be able to mitigate the likelihood of these occurrences and stimulate the improvement of our environment.

A conversation with grandfather... :$
My grandfather was a very special person in my life. I saw him almost every day when I was in tenth and eleventh grade since he lived close to my school. Recently, he left us due to old age and it was very hard for all of my family. I wish I had one more opportunity to talk with him and tell him how much he meant to me.
Grandpa: Hello, how are you?
Me: I'm fine.. I just miss you a lot. How have you been lately?
Grandpa: I've been fine, watching over you.
Me: You have? Why?
Grandpa: Because you are very special to me, and I love you. I've also been watching over your aunts, uncles, and cousins. You are all very special to me and I just want to make sure you all are all right.
Me: I love you too! You have no idea how hard it has been to pass right in front of your house almost every day and not be able to visit you. It has been very hard... on all of us. We have all felt an immense sense of loneliness.
Grandpa: Don't be sad because I left, be happy because I was with you and was able to spend time with you.
Me: I know, it's still inevitable feeling like this when you lose someone important to you.
Grandpa: You haven't lost me completely. If you really loved me, a part of me would stay in your heart. This way, I will always be with you, helping you, and watching over you.
Me: Like a guardian angel?
Grandpa: Yes, exactly like that. I will always be with you, and I will try my hardest to keep you and your family safe.
Me: You know, I never really told you this, but you are very important for me and I love you very much. I may not have always shown that I love you, but I did... and still do.
Grandpa: I know you do.
Me: Still... I thought you should hear it from me.
Grandpa: You didn't have to say it. When you spend time with me, it is evident that I am special to you, just like it is obvious that you are very special to me.
Me: I love you grandpa!
Grandpa: I love you too. Now I should leave, but remember, I am always close to you and I will always be watching over you.
Me: Bye! I love you!

My new life...
The past, the present, and the future... wherever you look everything was different, but what if we had to choose to live in another time? Personally, the most appealing era of all is the future; a time that is uncertain and full of so many surprises. In this era there will be a new way of life, new methods of transportation and new methods of communication. Nothing will be as it is today, or as it was before.

Who am I?
My name is Ramón M. Montalvo Droz, and I am currently in the twelfth grade. I go to University Gardens High School, a school specialized in math and science, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. My interests include playing sports (more specifically: soccer and volleyball), going out with my friends, reading, writing (sometimes), and listening to music. I also like to be as helpful as I can be; by this I mean that I enjoy helping my friends and companions whenever they need it, be it academically or emotionally. Finally, I believe that friendship is one of the most important things in ones life; this is because friends are the people that will help us whenever we need it and will stand by us though thick and thin.
